THE ANIMAL THAT THEREFORE I AM
THE ANIMAL THAT THEREFORE I AM
ROME, 2022
Based on “The Animal That Therefore I Am” by Jacques Derrida
Dimensions: 60x40x10 cm
Material: sponge, animal skin, thread
This is the only work using anything coming from an animal. Animal skin is "recycled", it was to be wasted. I strongly avoid calling it leather as I believe it's just another way of erasing animals' identity and presence, separating it from the products to make the violence easier. My aim was to show what it really is (a body), to create some kind of a "burial", to expose it and show it does matter.
Work made during my stay at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome
